中国近代是一个社会急剧变革的时代,在近代社会转型的波峰浪尖之中,被称为社会骄子的绅士阶层成了首当其冲的对象。湖南绅士的社会转型经历了一个从保守到激进,从合作到分化,再到衰亡的这样一个历史过程。湖南绅士的衰变过程始终与中国社会转型的大环境有着密不可分的联系,它是整个中国绅士阶层从盛到衰的一个历史缩影,也是中国绅士阶层回光返照的典型代表。
In modern times, China was an era of rapid social change. In the wave of the transformation of the modern society, the gentleman class known as the social pride became the target of the brunt. The social transformation of Hunan gentlemen underwent a historical process from conservatism to radicalism, from cooperation to division to decline. The decay process of Hunan gentleman has always been inextricably linked with the social transformation of China. It is a historical epitome of prosperity and decline of the entire Chinese gentleman class and a typical representative of the gentleman class in China.
