日本现代作家川端康成1988年在瑞典斯德哥尔摩接受诺贝尔文学奖金时,发表的《我在美丽的日本》的演讲,通篇贯穿着一条红线:禅与日本民族文学及他的创作之间的关系。这并非心血来潮,一时快意,而是作者成熟的抉择和思考,被称为“世界第一禅者”的日本学者铃木大拙,认为禅的精神就是日本,乃至东方民族的思想精髓,“禅就是构成日本特质的唯一要素”,我们全方位多角度地研究日本文学,绝不能忽视禅对川端康成小说创作的影响。从这个角度审,视他在60年代发表的中长篇小说《古都》,能否受到一些新的启发呢?回答是肯定的。
