“Active faults” and “inactive faults” are usually not universally accepted definitions. The wide range defined in the past, from faults based on these very low rates of activity or resurgence to those with historical horizontal dislocations, are termed “active faults.” The original definitions of Willis (Willis, 1923) and (wood), including the following four basic elements, are still widely used so far: (1) Active faults have horizontal dislocations during the present seismotectonic period. (2) Possibility and tendency of the active fault to have horizontal dislocations that may occur in the future or resurrect. (3) Active fault or may be displayed from geography, with evidence of modern activity. (4) Active faults may be accompanied by seismicity.
