托馬斯·哈代(Thomas Hardy,1840—1928)是19世紀英国杰出的現实主义作家。他出身于道塞郡西北高原的一个沒落的貴族家庭,由于家境困苦,小学毕业后他就没有升学,一面学教堂建筑,一面在家自修。1862年他去倫敦繼續学建筑,同时还研究文学、哲学和神学。1867年回到故乡,他就开始从事写作。他不仅写小說,而且也写詩。哈代最优秀的作品是描写19世紀70年代到90年代英国的一系列
Thomas Hardy (1840-1928) is an outstanding 19th-century British realist writer. He was born in a declining aristocratic family in the northwestern plateau of Dawsey County. Due to his poor family background, after graduating from elementary school, he did not go to school, studied the church building and studied at home. In 1862 he went to London to continue studying architecture, while also studying literature, philosophy and theology. Returning to his hometown in 1867, he began to write. He not only wrote novels, but also wrote poems. Hardy’s best work is a series of portrayals of Britain from the 1870s to the 1990s
