In January 1990, at a meeting of energy technology representatives, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers discussed in detail the advantages of two new platform concepts for the Gulf of Mexico and the design of pre-planned equipment. The key points are summarized as follows: The basic design points and economic advantages of the latest patent, “DOIT” (Design for Offshore Illimitable Tasks), are described by Brown & Root, Arco and Omega Marine.
