Chris: No, no, I was just a student and I was in high school a few months before I got the show, and then I was in college for two weeks, and then when I officially got it, and I was working at a dry cleaners in the summers to…
Host: Earning how much?
Chris: I think, seven twenty-five an hour. I think that was minimum wage at the time.
Host: You were earning seven dollars…
Chris: Yes.
Host: …twenty-five cents an hour.
Chris: An hour, yes.
Host: …in a dry cleaners…
Chris: In a dry cleaners, yes.
Host: …when you get a call saying, “Are you available to be the 2)heartthrob star of the biggest TV show in America?”
Chris: Well, I wish it was that 3)picturesque, but…
Host: Where were you when you got the call?
Chris: I was driving back from the last audition, and my mom...my mom was driving and—I’ll never forget, we were just passing Santa Monica Pier and the phone rang, and she answered it, and then she just looked at me with that look, and I knew I had it.
Host: What’s the look?
Chris: The look was like…look like she should be driving…she should be paying attention to the road. That was the look that I was giving back to her, but it was like the, “Ooooo!”
Host: And how did you feel? I mean what an extraordinary story for you, but did you realize, when you got that call, how big it might be? Did you have an 4)inkling?
Chris: Absolutely not. Absolutely not. And had I had any notion that it would become what it was, I mean, I would have been insane. I mean, who could’ve predicted all of this? It’s so surreal that, whenever I have a minute to myself and I stop and think about it, I get so lost in this cloud-nine world that it’s so hard to come back down from it.
Host: Did you wanna be an actor?
Chris: Yes, every since…I remember I was, like, three years old, and I was watching a movie, the title of which escapes me, and I remember the 5)credits came on and I remember asking my mom why it was over, and I just desperately wanted to be on the other side of it. You know, as I got older, I found out what, you know, movies were...actually were, and you know that, there were actors playing these roles and those kids weren’t actually living the adventures that you saw them living, but I knew I, that I wanted to be a part of that world.
Host: When was the moment that, with Glee, when you realized your life was never gonna be the same again? When did it pop for you?
Chris: I don’t know. I mean, I think it’s a constant bubble that keeps getting popped more and more.
Host: But originally…there must’ve been a moment when the ratings come in…
Chris: Right. What I mean…of course, when you…when you’re…it’s your first thing, you think, like, as soon as the 6)pilot airs the first time, then something, it’s gonna be this huge thing, and you won’t be able to walk outside, but it isn’t quite work that way. It’s more of a gradual process, but …
Host: But, for you, what was the “pinch me” moment?
Chris: Oh, 7)gawd! What was the first “pinch me” moment?
Host: The moment when you rang your mom and you were both getting carried away on the phone.
Chris: Probably, right. Right. I think, maybe, maybe it was the first time I was recognized, or maybe it was…or maybe it was the first time that I drove up to 8)Paramount Studios and had a place for my car to go. And that was really great.
Host: ’Cause that, through the gates.
Chris: Through the gates.
Host: I mean, that’s a special moment…
Chris: And they let me in, they didn’t call security.
Host: I had the same moment when I signed up for 9)America’s Got Talent. The first day of filming, the live shows was through those famous gates.
Chris: Yeah, yeah. It’s awesome.

Chris: Yeah. It’s an amazing feeling. It is…
Host: You’re thinking this is a long way from the dry cleaners.
Chris: Yeah, I think just actually getting work, being a working actor, I think was the moment for me, when I really had the realization.

克里斯：我想应该是。没错，当然，这是你的第一次演出，可能会觉得，电视剧第一次试播之后，你就大红大紫了，连在街上走路都不行了。但事实并不是这样，我反而觉得这是一个循序渐进的过程，但……
