不同言语集团的成员使用语言的模式与惯例各不相同。在英语教学中,为使学生掌握与以英语为母语的人进行交流的能力,除进行英语语音,语法和词汇教学外,还须让学生了解以英语为母语的人使用英语的模式与惯例。本文扼要介绍美国英语中赞美,恭维(Compliment)使用的模式与惯例。Wolfson 与 Manes(1980)分析了各种情景收集来的一千多例赞美,恭维语,发现它们的结构及用词极为相似。其中用的最多的结构(占收集的例子的总数的50%以上)是:NP is/looks(really)ADJ.(e.g.Yourting is nice.)其次是(分别占总数的16.1%及14.9%):
The language patterns and conventions used by members of different speech groups vary. In English teaching, in order to enable students to master the ability to communicate with English-speaking people, in addition to English phonetics, grammar and vocabulary teaching, students must be made aware of the patterns and conventions of English-speaking people using English. This article briefly introduces the patterns and conventions used in American English to compliment and compliment. Wolfson and Manes (1980) analyzed more than a thousand compliments and compliments collected from various scenarios and found that their structure and wording are very similar.
