The results of one international study show that stem cell transplantation from donor-matched donors is more effective than chemotherapy results for children at very high risk for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). A total of 357 newly diagnosed ALL patients under the age of 18 years were recruited by Italian researcher Dr. Adriana Balduzz and colleagues (complete resolution of first-episode disease between 1995 and 2000); the very high-risk status of these patients was based on the failure of the preferred treatment and some
