广东省高州县新垌公社,一九七四年晚稻大面积采用宽行窄株栽培新技术,夺得了水稻的大增产,为促进农业大上快上作出了新的贡献。新垌公社水稻通常的插植规格是5×4寸,每丛8~10本苗。宽行窄株栽培法是他们从水稻套种黄麻得到启发,于一九七二年早稻开始进行试验的。当季,8×2.5寸的麻沟边行比5×4寸的其余行获得显著增产。一九七三年和一九七四年早稻的试验,又获显著增产。一九七四年晚稻,在九个大队、十八个生产队中用三百多亩田进行扩大试验,绝大多数都取得显著的增产效果。开始试验较早的田讹生产队,在82亩晚稻田中采用宽行窄株规格的有76亩,
New Gao Community in Gaozhou County of Guangdong Province adopted new technology of wide-width and narrow-width cultivation in a large area in late 1974 in 1974, which won a big yield increase of rice and made new contribution to the promotion of agriculture.
