Today’s air-to-air missiles generally use radar-guided or infrared guided missiles to fly to the target. This article describes the development of mid-range air-to-air multimode seeker, which includes active infrared (IR) and radio frequency (RF) modes, as well as passive infrared and radio frequency modes. Its main technical issue is clear, and its technologies include: cylindrical, frequency-swept conformal radiofrequency antenna arrays and heterodyne / direct double detector infrared detector arrays mounted on gimbals. The infrared detection system consists of an active / passive imaging system fixed to the gimbal platform with the detector array placed on the focal plane of the optical system. This article also discusses other designs for simultaneous use of RF and IR detectors.
