医院感染监测最早可追溯到１９世纪早期，到了２０世纪５０年代以后，医院感染监测发展较快。我国８０年代初期只有医院感染监测的零散报道。进入８０年代中期，即有组织的开展了医院感染地监测。今后医院感染的监测将会在监测方法、监测人群、监测内容、监测评估、监测管理、先进方法的引入和应用、研究和开发新的更有效的监测方法方面有重大进展，从而推动医院感染工作向更加科学化发展。
