Specialized algorithms for data encryption with microprocessors have recently gained people’s interest. This paper presents an overview of a class of array shift register based algorithms and describes a method of using a Motorola 6800 micro-computer key generation device. If these algorithms can generate long-lived keystreams that have nothing to do with the word size of the machine, they can be implemented in microprocessors. The system as a whole requires medium storage (1.5k ROM, 100 bytes of RAM) and can guarantee data security within the response time limit for character-oriented end applications. 1.
