牤牛河发源于太行山南段东侧的峰峰矿区一带,由西向东,从林坦村进入磁县北部,向东汇入南北流向的滏阳河,全长约15公里。其上游河床狭窄,两岸为起伏的丘陵地带,直到袁庄村附近,河床骤然拓宽,以至林峰村西,形成扇面冲积平原,两岸台地平坦。1989年初,为配合河北省查遗补漏的文物复查工作,由邯郸地区文物保管所组成文物普查小组,对牤牛河两岸进行了专题性考古调查。参加调查的人员有张沅、王立军、翟中华、乔文学。调查于2月27日开始,至3月8日结束,历时10天。共发现古遗址5处
It originates from the Fengfeng mining area on the east side of the south section of Taihang Mountain.
