在兀鹏辉对徐冰的访谈中,徐冰一反他一贯的“不说破”禅宗风格,终于“说破”了他的《新英文书法》。兀鹏辉问徐冰:“《新英文书法》是不是也影响了中国书法界?”徐冰回答:“《书法有法》的作者孙晓云就说:‘真正碰到的现代书法就是徐冰的。’将书法引入当代的考虑在书法界一直都有,有的把书法引入绘画,加上颜色,或者少字数、抽象和变形等,我觉得都没有找到书法本质的东西。为什么别人会说《新英文书法》有现代性,是因为写字本身革命了。你不在写字上,而是在画字上革命是不行的。”这就是说徐冰“说破”了他的《新英文书法》的“真如”——“写字革命”。这让我终于对其《新英文书法》有了进一步进行针对性言说和批评的可能性,免得他在未“说破”时又拿那句“拿愚蠢当智慧”的禅宗偈语“本来无一物,何处惹尘埃”来为自己开
