Based on the actual measurements of the snow in the Austre Okstindbreen glacier in the northern Europe, it is proved that the new method of measuring the liquid water content in the snow - alcohol calorimetry - is feasible and applicable, which solves the problem of measuring the liquid water content in the snow problems at hand. The results of the five snow pit sections clearly show the zonality and height variation of the water content in the snow. The vertical variation of the water content in the snow is related to the physical structure, temperature and density distribution in the snow layer.
