Li Fengs (2013) Early China:A Social and Cultural History and Michael Parentis (2003) The Assassination of Julius Caesar will be of interest to those conceed about the rise and fall of proletarian govement.Parentis book is anchored around the political life of Julius Caesar (102-44 BC).Its author is in the Italian-American,working class intellectual tradition that makes the best use of their ancient heritage.Li Fengs book studies Chinese history during the Han period (202 BC-220 AD),which parallels that studied by Parenti.His focus is on social developments.A Columbia University professor,he is politically more conservative than Parenti,but in his incorporation of Chinas communist historiography and archeology,there is a proletarian focus similar to Parentis.
