It is hypothesized that the development of a mantle uplift (convective upwelling of several thousand meters in diameter) developed beneath the still supercontinent gathered in the late Early Proterozoic led to the development of the Mesoproterozoic orogeny magma movement. Magmatic movement is caused by the intrusion and accumulation of mantle melts in the crust, causing uplift of the lower crust and partial melting of the water. Large rock mats including rhyolite, syenite, plagioclase and gabbro, extensive mafic dikes and rifts containing up to 20 km of basalts were generated.
