1999年10月3日11时20分,被誉为“西南第一漂”的贵州省黔西南州兴义市马岭河谷风景区发生了一起缆车坠落事故,致使35名乘客死伤,其中14人死亡,死者年龄最大为40岁,最小为7岁。事故也使风景区一名工作人员意外受伤。14名死亡者中除一名为贵州籍外,其余全部为广西籍。事故暴露了目前日趋繁荣的旅游行业里许多亟须注意和改善的问题。事故将使许多人终身留下残疾,甚至永远站不起来。事故留下了两名孤儿数名单亲儿童。
