李四光教授在《地质力学概论》中指出:“总结了大陆壳的构造特点,可以看出,扭动构造型式(包括巨型和超巨型扭动构造型式)普遍存在”。研究指出,这种构造型式在地壳演化早期——太古代也有明显地反映。不同的是由于太古代时期的地壳结构、硬化程度、热态变化等方面的特殊性,其扭动构造型式的特点一般表现为规模巨大、结构简单、“伴生”复合的地质作用(包括变质作用、混合岩化作用、成岩成矿作用等)明显。
