very和much以及very much是看似简单的、常用的多频率的副词和副词词组。但在语言实践中,有时却使人感到捉摸不定,不知该选用哪一个是好。例如,She is(very)calculating中的very可以任意省略,但在She is calculating our salaries中,不能加上very。我们可以说I much prefer…,但不可以说I much like…;然而,I very much like…却是可以的。又如,The man was very exhausted,是标准的英语,但My patience Was very exhausted by his behavior,却被认为是非正式英语,甚至有人认为是错误的。在a very tired man和a much discussed question的词组中,very和much能交换使用吗?诸如这些问题,目前国内各种英语刊物发表的文章并不多见。本文拟结合多年教学中所积累的资料,并参考有关文献就very和much的若干用法问题,进行探讨分析。
Very and much and very much are seemingly simple, frequently used multi-frequency adverbs and adverbs. However, in language practice, sometimes people feel unpredictable, I do not know which one to choose is good. For example, very in She is (very) calculating can be omitted at will, but in She is calculated our salaries, very can not be added. We can say I much prefer ... but I can not say much like ...; however, I very much like ... is okay. Another example, The man was very exhausted, is standard English, but My patience Was very exhausted by his behavior, but is considered informal English, and some even think it is wrong. In a very tired man and a much discussed question phrase, very and much can be exchanged for use? Such as these issues, the current domestic publications of various English publications are rare. This article intends to combine years of teaching in the accumulation of information, and with reference to the literature on a number of very and much usage problems, to explore and analyze.
