关于芥川龙之介的《罗生门》,三好行雄指出:“毫无疑问,这篇小说的主题是要揭示出拔死人头发的老太婆和剥光老太婆衣服的仆人在故事最后发现的‘人生哲理’,即为了生存是可以不择手段的这种过于直白的利己主义”。从全文来看,这个揭示过程是以仆人的行动及心理变化为中心,以与老太婆的相遇为契机,以老太婆的自我辩解为关键点而形成的。因此,说仆人和老太婆是这篇小说的主人公是毋庸置疑的。但是小说整体的完成不仅需要主角,还需要配角。《罗生门》中,除了仆人和老太婆还有蟋蟀、脓包、大刀、火光等配角存在。为什么芥川龙之介会将它们安排在作品中呢,也就是说这些配角在小说中到底有什么作用呢,这是许多研究者都有兴趣的一个研究课题。本文以《罗生门》中出现的“火光”为焦点,探讨“火光”在《罗生门》中担任着什么样的角色。
