宋代文人是富有实践精神的。一些文人对用砚、藏砚、评砚尚嫌不足,尝试着自己动脑动手,以各种形式参与到造砚活动中去。制砚家欧阳修《砚谱》中就曾记录一则文人造砚的例子:《文房四谱》有造瓦砚法,人罕知其妙。向时有著作佐郎刘义叟者,尝如其法造之,绝佳。砚作未多,士大夫家未甚有,而义叟物故,独余尝得其二,一以赠刘原父,一余置中书阁中,尤以为宝也。今士大夫不学书,故罕事笔墨,砚之见于时者惟此尔。~(1)
