GPR Applications Ground penetrating radar, as a method of detecting non-penetrating dielectrics, has been successfully used in many fields. This section classifies some of these main uses and describes some of the more representative ones. For these applications, it describes the equipment used or the results obtained. Some of these authors have designed their own hardware, while others use commercially available off-the-shelf systems. In the latter case, the type of system will be indicated here and outlined in Section 3.4, “Commodities Available on Ground-penetrating Radar Equipment Available on the Market”. To date most are civilian but there are also military reports such as tunneling (the United States studied during the Vietnam War) and non-metallic mines (also in the United States).
