Australian linguist Anna Vejibicz used the “cultural script” in his English: Meaning and Culture to analyze the characteristics of Anglo-Cultures. She pointed out that “being reasonable ” is a core vocabulary and value in Anglo-Cult culture, which embodies the characteristics that British culture values democracy, equality, voluntary cooperation and mutual concessions. There is also a concept of “rationale” in Chinese culture, but it is different from “being reasonable” in historical origin and significance. This article will compare English “being reasonable ” with Chinese “rationale ” from the perspective of cultural concepts to explore the different aspects of Chinese and British cultures.
