我国铁路编组场的目的制动实现自动化和半自动化以后,溜车距离要求越来越远,顺驼峰方向的下坡道越来越长,尾部留下的平道和反坡也越来越短,甚至有的老站的尾部仍是下坡,以致尾部随时都有溜放车辆冒标挤岔的危险,而且由于编组场头部尾部不能同时作业而影响综合能力的发挥。为此,许多编组场采取了下铁鞋或拧手闸的权宜之计,有的铁路局试制了停车器,但是,尾部停车反坡的合理设置以及停车器的安装位置问题还有待研究解决。
