Objective To investigate the relationship between the expression of p53 and ki-67 protein and the differentiation, infiltration and lymph node metastasis in primary gastric cancer. Methods The expressions of p53 and ki-67 protein in 70 primary gastric cancer tissues were detected by immunohistochemistry. Results The positive expression rates of p53 and ki-67 in primary gastric cancer tissues were 72.9% (51/70) and 31.4% (22/70), respectively. The positive rate of p53 was significantly higher than that of ki-67 (P <0.01). The expression of p53 gene protein was significantly correlated with lymph node metastasis (P <0.05), while the expression of ki-67 protein was significantly correlated with the depth of tumor invasion (P <0.05). Conclusion The expression of ki-67 in gastric cancer is related to the invasion of gastric cancer. Detection of mutant p53 is of important value in judging the lymph node metastasis of gastric cancer.
