Objective To detect the expression of cytokeratin 19 (CK19) mRNA in peripheral blood of patients with breast cancer, and to investigate the relationship between micrometastasis in peripheral blood and tumor size, axillary lymph node metastasis, clinical stage, age, menopause and receptor status. Methods Sixty patients with postoperative breast cancer were enrolled in this study. The patients were divided into three groups (stage 0 to stage I, stage II and stage III) according to clinical stage. RT-PCR and CK19 mRNA were used as markers to detect blood micro-level Transfer occurred. Results The positive rate of blood micrometastasis was 23.33% (14/60), of which 0.00% (0/9) in stage 0 to stage Ⅰ, 16.22% (6/37) in stage Ⅱ, 57.14% (8/14) in stage Ⅲ, The difference was statistically significant (P <0.05). Conclusions Blood micrometastasis is closely related to tumor stage. There was no correlation between blood micrometastasis and tumor size, status of axillary lymph node metastasis, age, menopause and receptor status.
