东风型机车柴油机机型老、油耗高、经济性差,铁道部大连内燃机车研究所根据铁道部的要求,提出了“东风型机车降低油耗试验研究”方案,并会同成都铁路局机务处与峨眉内燃机务段共同承担了降低油耗的装车试验研究工作。经过两年多的努力,完成了下达的计划任务。为此,铁道部科技局会同工业总局与机务局于1985年6月24～25日在峨眉段进行了技术鉴定会。参加鉴定会的除铁道部有关局的领导外,还有铁道部有关的铁路局、机务段、工厂、高等院校及科研所等19个单位32位代表。
