Objective To investigate the relationship between ApoE genotypes and macrovascular microangiopathy in NIDDM patients. Methods The genotypes of DNAApoE in mouthwash of 200 patients with NIDDM were detected by ARMS. Results ① The incidence of CAD was 70.8% in ∈4 / 3 ∈4 / 4 group, which was significantly higher than that in ∈3 / 3 group (48.4%) and 43.5% of ∈2 / 2∈3 / 2 group .01 or 0.05). There was also a tendency of CVD and PVD (P> 0.05). The incidence of any macrovascular disease was 75% in ∈4 / 3ε4 / 4 group, which was significantly higher than ∈3 / 51.6% in the three groups and 47.8% in the ∈2 / 2ε3 / 2 group (P <0.01 or 0.05). ② Microvascular lesions also increased in order of ∈2, ∈3 and ∈4 (P> 0.05). Conclusion ∈ 4 allele increases the risk of vascular lesions in patients with NIDDM, especially CAD.
