微波通信系统(地面通信系统和卫星通信系统)的新进展,产生了对具有大大改进了性能的大功率射频放大器的需要。为达到这些通信系统的性能和成本指标,需要输出功率大、效率高、瞬时带宽更宽、信号失真小、对冷却要求低以及工作寿命长的放大器。为了适应这些新要求,休斯飞机公司的电子动力部为大功率耦合腔行波管研究出了几项新技术。本文叙述利用这些新技术并且体现通信用大功率射频放大器当前的工艺水平的两个行波管的设计和性能。
Recent advances in microwave communication systems (terrestrial and satellite communication systems) have created the need for high-power RF amplifiers with greatly improved performance. To meet the performance and cost specifications of these communication systems, amplifiers are needed that have high output power, high efficiency, wider instantaneous bandwidth, low signal distortion, low cooling requirements, and long working life. In order to meet these new requirements, Hughes Aircraft’s Electronic Power Division has developed several new technologies for high-power coupled-cavity TWTs. This article describes the design and performance of two traveling wave tubes that utilize these new technologies and reflect the current state of the art in high power RF amplifiers for communications.
