Twenty, the bomb and the 1899 Hague Peace Talks The pace-shooting machine guns and artillery pieces have so far seemed to dominate the conventional battlefield of low and medium intensity conflicts. In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and many years afterwards, the majority felt insensitive and could not understand the profound changes in arms and war. One Polish writer named Bullock published in 1897 a book entitled “The Future War Related to Technology, Economy and Politics” (6 volumes in total), in which he fictionalized a horrifying scenario of a future war : Various kinds of weapons are used on the battlefield, and both warring parties attack each other with very violent firepower, leading to mass destruction and protracted cuttings
