为了加快湖南省公路事业发展、促进经济建设,进一步减少和缩小与沿海地区的差距,有必要正确分析全省进入“九五”以来的公路建设基本状况,并认真提出“九五”后3年工作目标,为领导决策提供参考。 1997年全省公路通车里程已达59944公里,比1995年增加819公里;等级公路达到31918公里,占总里程的53.24％,比1995年增加1.85个百分点,其中高速公路为45公里,一专公路198公里,二专公路为161公里,二级公路达2471公里,二级以上公路由1995年的2006公里到1997年为2830公里。但是公路网落后的状况还没有从根本上得到改善,等级以上的公路占全部公路总里程的比重比全国平均
