红色旅游的兴起实际上是成功开发了革命老区所特有的人文历史资源，为广大人民表达对历史事件和历史伟人的怀念、景仰之情提供了一个良好的途径。同时，革命老区多位于尚不发达的山区，拥有良好的生态环境、淳朴的乡土风情，或具有鲜明的地域特色和民族风情，又由于历史和政治的原因而具有相当高的知名度。这些有利条件促使红色旅游短期内在国内迅速“红”了起来。 The rise of red tourism has in fact succeeded in developing the historical and cultural resources unique to the old revolutionary base areas and has provided a good way for the general public to express their love and admiration for historical events and historical greats.
