Influenced by the geographical location and topography, Yunnan’s foreign trade has a long history. Before the opening of the port of Mengzi, Burma, Laos and Vietnam bordering Tibet were the main targets of foreign trade in Yunnan Province. As a result, a regional trade circle was formed. This kind of trade with neighboring countries is still dominated by indigenous transactions, which are easy to trade with each other. Before its opening in Mengzi, Yunnan’s foreign trade remained dominated by direct trade with its neighboring countries. On the other hand, when Yunnan’s native products entered the world market and foreign goods entered Yunnan, they also needed to make use of the multi-level transshipment of other open ports. This makes the development of Yunnan’s foreign trade is not only lagging far behind the coast, the Yangtze River (Yangtze River) region, but also less than a lot of the mainland provinces.
