1979年黑龙江省文物考古工作队对克东古城进行挖掘.在一处揭露面积约500平方米的建筑遗址中,发现遗址墙基呈波浪起伏状,同时看到直径约55~90厘米基石上的成排木柱,均向西南同一方向移位,有的移位一米多.这座古建筑面积为200多平方米,室内有前后平行三排木柱基石,每排为五个柱础.这项考古报告的执笔者认为,这所建筑可能毁于古代火山爆发引起的地震.
