No-motor ring laser gyroscopes are smaller than today’s ring laser gyroscopes due to their reduced size, weight, reliability and cost savings, as is the case with Northrop Grumman Precision Products, of Norwood, Mass. The gyroscope is designed with a unique optical and magnetic structure that prevents the main gyro error source known as the “lock” and eliminates the need for the usual ring laser gyros to be used to prevent such errors. Eliminating the only mover motor other than itself increases the reliability of the gyroscope, reduces manufacturing costs, and enables the production of smaller and lighter, motorless ring laser gyroscopes than conventional ring laser gyroscopes instrument.
