为了保持相当的竞争力,商业活动需要将信息高效率高质量地及时传送到个人手中。但是由于各种对带宽占用很大的应用软件、多媒体和服务器机群的涌现使现有的网络在传输数据时出现拥塞的几率越来越高,这也激发了人们对于宽带智能网络的迫切需求。面对这些问题,信息管理员发现传统的基于软件的路由器虽然具备非常丰富的功能,但是不能达到需要的性能指标。在另一方面,基于硬件的第二层交换机可以提供高性能表现,但是又缺乏相应的对路由器的控制。那么什么才是令人满意的解决方案呢?那就是基于交换式路由器的千兆以太网技术。这种组合提供更高的性能、增强的容量、更强大的控制功能,对于当今飞速发展的网络技术提供良好的投资保护。据预测,到2003年,全球第三层千兆以太网的市场机会将达到180亿美元。
In order to remain fairly competitive, business activities need to deliver information to individuals in a timely and efficient and high-quality manner. However, due to the emergence of various application software, multimedia, and server clusters that occupy a large amount of bandwidth, the existing network has a higher probability of congestion when data is transmitted, which also stimulates people’s urgent need for broadband intelligent networks. In the face of these problems, information administrators find that traditional software-based routers, while having very rich capabilities, cannot achieve the required performance metrics. On the other hand, hardware-based Layer 2 switches can provide high-performance performance, but lack the corresponding control over the routers. So what is a satisfactory solution?
