A few days ago I met Wang Tongsan, a macroeconomist at the Academy of Social Sciences, to discuss the Olympic economy. I hope he will talk about the impact of the Olympic Games on China’s economy. I did not expect the veteran’s influence on the Olympic Games to be a little disdainful because the growth in investment and consumption brought by the Olympic Games is very small compared with the total economic output of China, the world’s fourth largest economy. Historically, we have heard about the impact of the Olympic Games on the Korean economy and the impact on the Greek economy, but few have heard about the Olympic Games’ impact on the U.S. economy. Therefore, the scholar who regularly writes reports to the senior Chinese government predicts that the concept and impact of the Olympics will soon pass. Countries will have more investments to invest in and businesses will also develop more sales selling points.
