对移动通信的需求若以目前的速度持续增长的话,预计移动通信系统的无线电信道将不够用。解决这个问题最可行的方法就是在保证质量的前提下,减小话音信号传输的比特率。经过广泛研究,NTT集团已推出基音同步CELO(OSI-CELP)话音编码方法。该方法采用半速率,但质量可与现有标准相比。因此PSI-CELP已被选作日本数字蜂窝区移动通信系统的半速率编译码器的标准。
If the demand for mobile communications continues to grow at the current rate, the radio channel of the mobile communication system is not expected to be sufficient. The most feasible solution to this problem is to reduce the bit rate of voice signal transmission under the premise of ensuring quality. After extensive research, NTT Group has introduced the Pitch-CELO (OSI-CELP) speech coding method. The method uses half rate, but the quality can be compared with the existing standard. PSI-CELP has therefore been selected as the standard for half-rate codecs in the digital cellular mobile communication system in Japan.
