The 89th Maritime Safety Administration (MSC89) of the International Maritime Organization was held at London’s headquarters on 11 May 2011. The issue of piracy and armed robbery in the Gulf of Somalia and the Indian Ocean waters has become a hot topic of concern. Other major topics include the adoption of amendments to the SOLAS Convention relating to lifeboat release devices, the implementation of the Torremolinos Fishing Vessel Safety Protocol, the consideration of the implementation of the GBS standard, the updating of the ship’s remote identification and tracking system, and consideration of the STCW Convention
