In his late eight plays, John Gabriel Borkman (1896, hereinafter referred to as “Bockman”) is one of the most peculiar pieces. As if wearing a few layers of hazy veil, the true face so far rarely seen. Ibsen himself wrote that The Master Builder (1892), Little Eyolf (1894), Bokman, When We Dead Awaken 1899) constitutes a new series of his later creations, but he “does not want to talk too much about this topic” ~ ([2]). Accordingly, the play must have Ibsen want to convey but do not want to be well-known content. So what is this one?
