According to the U.S. Air Force website November 19, 2010, the first E-3 “Sentinel” airborne early warning and control system (AWACS) aircraft that was modified on block 40/45 to arrive in Oklahoma on November 18 Air Force Logistics Center at Yankea Airbase, whereby the E-3 aircraft entered the next upgrade improvement phase following block 30/35. According to the AWACS system 40/45 product owner, this improvement will replace the task computer system installed in the 1970s. The new system will have an open, web-based architecture with new mission software that will enhance the tracking and battle recognition capabilities in addition to providing operators with better operational space images. The upgrade also takes into account the integration of more airborne / non-airborne sensors to improve the aircraft’s data link base
