[European Nuclear Energy, August-September 1988, p. 12] Whether or not to choose a solution for the latter part of the nuclear fuel cycle from post-processing to final disposal, power companies all over the world must address the issue of intermediate fuel storage. The ideal storage facility must be “safe” and as “compact” as possible. Underwater storage is currently the most proven technology. It is the most widely used method on an industrial scale and is of interest because of its suitability for high-density storage. The following is a record of a seminar held by Francine Chalmin-Parer as chairman of the conference.
