1937年11月,上海沦陷成为“孤岛”后,日本侵略军的魔掌伸入租界,对中国报纸实施新闻检查。为了摆脱这种困境,争取新闻自由并建立抗日宣传阵地,在党的领导和影响下,挂洋商招牌的《译报》和《文汇报》先后于1938年1月创刊。郑振铎主编的《书评专刊》作为《文汇报》文艺副刊《世纪风》的专刊,也于1938年5月8日开始与读者见面,《书评专刊》每周一期,一共出了9期,至同年7月3日宣布停刊。郑振铎创刊《书评专刊》的目的,是为了建设和弘扬抗战文化,为神圣的抗战事业服务。在郑振铎执笔而不署名的《发刊词》里,开宗明义地说道:“战时的文化运动,不仅不应该停止,且较平时更为需要,一切战时常识及其它有关战事的书报,均为我们当前
