《圣特尔莫的猴子》(Los monos de San Telmo)译自古巴 “美洲之家”1963年6月出版的他的同名短篇小说集。这本短篇小需集是拉丁美洲第四次(1963年)文学评选中得奖作品。在这篇小说里,作者生动逼员地刻画了一个殖民者的形象,通过主角洛克·库伯为了凑足五十只猴子,竟不惜把当地的两个孩子作为猴子这个事例,揭露了殖民者的残酷嘴脸,无情地鞭挞了他们宣传的所谓“文明”。作者还巧妙地穿插了主角回忆他的祖父——早期的殖民者的一些言行,反映了历史上的殖民者的强盗行径。同时,作者在结尾时用幽默而沉痛的笔触,勾勒出现代殖民者横行霸道的情景。尽管这篇小说的某些情节有些艺术的夸张,但却有深厚的现实基础。
“Los monos de San Telmo” is a collection of his short stories of the same name published in Cuba in 1963 June. This short essay is the winning entry for the fourth (1963) literary award in Latin America. In this novel, the author vividly portrays the image of a colonialist who uncovered the case of two local children as monkeys by revealing the colonists Cruel face, mercilessly whipped their so-called “civilized” propaganda. The author also cleverly interspersed the protagonist recalls his grandfather - some of the words and deeds of early colonialists, reflecting the history of the colonialist robbery. At the same time, the author, with humorous and painful strokes at the end, sketches the hegemony of the modern colonialists. Although some of the stories in this novel are exaggerated in art, they have a profound realistic foundation.
