忠恕之道是孔子仁学最为根本的实践工夫和最为核心的诠释原则。《中庸》本忠恕之道将孔子仁学做了新的诠释。其中,“中庸”含两义,即对中和之情的运用和中和之情的效用。就前者说,中庸就是忠恕;就后者说,中庸就是由忠恕而达到的仁境。中和之情乃是人情本然之规律,但必须以慎独工夫来维持。由慎独而至中和的工夫,即同于由忠而恕的方法。“诚”是子思从慎独工夫中自然转出来的观念。诚强调成己成物的统一,即体现了忠恕一体而仁的精神。《中庸》的主旨与孔门仁学一脉相承。
The principle of loyalty and forgiveness is the most fundamental practice and the most central principle of interpretation of Confucius’ benevolence. The Doctrine of the Golden Mean made a new interpretation of Confucius’ benevolence. Among them, “Mean” contains two meanings, that is, the use of neutralization and the utility of neutrality. In the former case, the golden mean is loyalty and forgiveness; and in the latter case, the golden mean is the benevolence reached by loyalty and forgiveness. Neutralization is the natural law of human beings, but it must be maintained with the utmost care. The work from cautiousness to neutralization is the same as the method of loyalty and forgiveness. “Honesty ” is a concept that Zi Si naturally turns out from her time-honored work. Honesty emphasizes the unity of what has been done, that is, embodies the spirit of loyalty and forgiveness. The doctrine of “Golden Mean” is the same as Confucianism.
