利用增压器提升引擎的动力,少说也有上百年历史。尽管当中的基本原理在这些年来没有任何变化,目的依然是以强制方式将空气逼进汽缸,但在应用手法上,近年倒有一些新奇意念。增压原理与技术由来某位业内前辈曾说:“要座驾动力大增,与其想方设法提升原有引擎的动力,倒不如干脆换装一台容积更大的引擎。”这番话简单扼要地带出了引擎的一大特点,即排气量愈大,动力也愈强。这是人人皆晓的常识,但增加引擎排气量并非毫无缺点。即便无视耗油量增加的结果,也不能忽略汽缸容积增加往往代表引擎重量同时向上发展。
