Among numerous overseas novels that exaggerated Eastern mysticism and social imperfections, Dai Sijie restored an intellectual China to the West. In the face of its own confusion in alien cultures, the imagination of the homeland is different from the imagination in the western mode of thinking. That is a process of fleeing and re-entering itself. Dialogue with other writers’ works, dialogue between three of their own works, and dialogue within each work clearly draw on Western writing skills. This breakthrough in the spiritual exchange of time and territory is closely related to the issue of cultural identity.
