香炉瓜(见上图),又名灯笼瓜、五彩瓜。瓜形上圆下方,上部既圆又鲜红,下部灰褐色至淡红色,偶尔有几条彩纹或其它图形,并有2～5个小包凸起;整瓜分为两截,中间如系一条金灰色腰带,形状十分奇特。该瓜有红、白、褐、黄、青、绿、蓝等多种色彩,极美观,是我国传统的吉祥物,尤其是佛教信仰者最喜爱用此瓜来供佛。香炉瓜为葫芦科一年生草本植物,全生育期120～150天。一般于3月中旬至6月中旬播种(如有温室可提前),最迟可延至7月上旬播种。嫩瓜金黄色,随着时间的推移逐渐转红。花朵较大,并散发出如兰草、紫罗兰、山茶花的香味;瓜肉质 Xianglu melon (see above), also known as lantern melon, colorful melon.
