Charles Taylor pointed out that contemporary procedural liberalism is overly concerned with negative freedom and rejecting positive freedom is not appropriate, and negative freedom and positive freedom are all indispensable parts of freedom. Taylor believes that it is necessary to move from passive negativity to active liberty so as to obtain the overall meaning of freedom from the link between the two. This is divided into two steps: Freedom requires not only external accessibility, but also internal accessibility, and freedom requires external arbitration; attempts to advocate a “contextualized freedom” on the basis of ontology. Although Taylor’s freedom concept corrects the freedom of procedural liberalism to a certain extent, the danger of restraining individuals makes the concept of freedom can only be corrected.
